PET CALENDAR RULES
Once the entry time closes, readers will vote on their favorite pets.
The top 13 will be selected through the voting process to be photographed by professional photographer, Heba Salama and featured in the 12-month calendar. The pet with the most votes will be featured on the cover. The other 12 will be featured pet on one of the calendar months chosen by graphic design team.
All photos submitted will appear in the back of the calendar with the Pet's name.
Every entry will receive a calendar. The free calendar can be picked up at The News & Observer in downtown Raleigh or at one of our community paper offices in Chapel Hill, Smithfield or Zebulon.
All entries will be entered into a drawing for one of 12 Thundershirts.
The owners and Thundershirts will be notified of the winners who will
make arrangements with Thundershirt to receive their prize.
5,000 calendars will be printed and donated to local non-profit pet rescue organizations for distribution. These nonprofit organizations will be selling the calendars for $5 each and will keep 100% of the calendar sales. Additionally, 10% of all entry and voting revenue will be donated to these charities. The remaining revenue will be used to produce and print the calendar.

How to nominate my pet?
Entries must be submitted online through triangle.com with your $15 entry fee.
Only 1 pet per photo. Photos with multiple pets and/or people will NOT be accepted. All entries must be accompanied by the pet’s name, owner’s name, contact information and a brief paragraph about your pet. A good quality close-up of your pet will reproduce best online, in the calendar and in any print ads in The News & Observer.
Entries accepted Monday, August 1, through Friday, August 31 at 5:00pm.
How do I Vote?
Voting is Monday, September 3 through Friday, September 28 at 5 p.m.
Top 13 pets will make the pet calendar and the one with the most votes will be on the cover.
Votes aret 25 cents each with a minimum order of 20 votes ($5). No limit on how many votes an individual can cast for a pet.
The top 13 pets will be announced online Monday, October 1.
Prizes?
The top 13 pets will receive a professional photo shoot by Heba Salama. One photo will be chosen fore the calendar by the design team. You will also receive a free portrait from the photographer.
You are under no obligation to purchase additional photographs.
Winning pets must be available to meet with professional photographer, Heba Salama in early to mid October. It is the pet owner’s responsibility to make arrangements with the photographer and meet at the llocation of the photographer’s choice.
Pet should be clean and groomed for the photo shoot. Please note that the photographer is donating her time and talents to this worthy cause so please be on time and ready for your photo session.
All 13 pets will be featured in The News & Observer on Sunday, October 21. Photos submitted for the contest will be used in this advertisement.
Calendar Rules
Anyone under 18 must have a parent or guardian’s permission to submit an entry or to vote.
By submitting your pet, this will be deemed as consent for the use of the entrant’s name and photo in The News & Observer and triangle.com and in all media for advertising and/or trade purposes without compensation. In accepting a prize, the recipient of the prize agrees to allow publication of his or her name with photo for further promotion of the calendar and future similar calendars with The News & Observer and triangle.com.
By entering, participant releases The News & Observer and triangle.com, its affiliates, agencies and sponsoring companies from all liabilities for injuries or damages sustained in connection with the use of any of the prizes.
Winners will be notified. All entries become the property of The News & Observer and triangle.com, which will be the sole judge of the rules. The News & Observer and triangle.com reserves the right to reject any submitted entry if photo is deemed unsuitable for publication due to content or quality.
By participating, you agree to the rules.
Winners must be available to be photographed locally by Heba Salama in early to mid October.
All local, state, federal and other applicable taxes are the sole responsibility of the winner. Prizes are non-transferable. Program is void where prohibited by law.
Employees of The News & Observer and triangle.com are ineligible to submit an entry.
The News & Observer and triangle.com reserve the right to amend rules at anytime.
